Arrow Symbol Copy and Paste
49 arrow symbols to copy and paste: plain, double, long, curved, decorative and block arrows. Each one lists its official Unicode name, and the table shows which arrows can switch to an emoji look.
Definition: An arrow symbol is a Unicode character drawn as an arrow, such as → (U+2192, Rightwards Arrow). Arrows are ordinary text characters, so they copy and paste into any field that accepts text and follow the color of the surrounding text.

Which arrow to use
→ (U+2192, Rightwards Arrow) is the standard arrow. ⟶ (U+27F6, Long Rightwards Arrow) is the same idea drawn longer. ⇒ (U+21D2, Rightwards Double Arrow) has two lines, and in math and logic it commonly means implies, with ⇔ meaning if and only if. ➜ (U+279C, Heavy Round-Tipped Rightwards Arrow) and ➤ (U+27A4, Black Rightwards Arrowhead) are decorative dingbat arrows that suit bios and lists.
For direction, ↑ ↓ ← → are the four straight arrows, and ↖ ↗ ↘ ↙ are the four diagonals, named by compass point. ↩ and ↪ are hooked return arrows, and ↺ and ↻ are open circle arrows for undo and redo style marks.
Up, down, left and right arrow symbols
The four straight arrows are ↑ (U+2191, Upwards Arrow), ↓ (U+2193, Downwards Arrow), ← (U+2190, Leftwards Arrow) and → (U+2192, Rightwards Arrow). All four were added in Unicode 1.1 in 1993 and have no emoji form, so they keep the color of your text. For heavier block arrows, ⬆ ⬇ ⬅ and ➡ are the black arrows, and those can switch to an emoji look in some apps.
Why an arrow sometimes turns into an emoji
16 of the 49 arrows here, ↔↕↖↗↘↙↩↪⤴⤵➡⬅⬆⬇▶◀, are listed by Unicode as text characters that also have an emoji form, selected with the invisible variation selector U+FE0F. Some apps draw them in that emoji style, which can look like a colored square or a button. The other 33 arrows have no emoji form at all, so they always stay plain text.
If you want an arrow that stays the color of your text in every app, pick one of those: ← ↑ → ↓, the double arrows, or the decorative arrows such as ➜ and ➤.
Arrows for steps and flows
An arrow between words shows a sequence in plain text, for example Home → Shop → Checkout, which is useful in a bio, a caption or a short guide where you cannot use formatting. The Arrow rows group above has ready-to-paste examples.
Every symbol with its Unicode details
The table lists the 49 arrow symbols from the first five groups. The arrow rows are made of ordinary characters, so they have no single Unicode entry.

Source: the Unicode Character Database (character names, DerivedAge.txt and emoji-data.txt), checked in November 2026. The default look column follows Unicode's emoji properties. Apps and fonts can still draw a symbol differently, so treat it as a guide and not a promise. UTF-16 units is how many 16-bit units the symbol takes, which some apps use when they count length. Added in Unicode, by symbol count: 41 in Unicode 1.1 (1993), 5 in Unicode 3.2 (2002) and 3 in Unicode 4.0 (2003).
Where arrow symbols work
Symbols paste as ordinary text, so they work in bios, captions, comments, display names and chat messages. Handle or username fields are often stricter and may accept only letters, numbers and a few punctuation marks, so a symbol can be rejected or removed there even when it works in the display name on the same platform. Paste it into the field and check the preview before you save.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I copy and paste an arrow symbol?
Click or tap any card on this page and the symbol is copied to your clipboard as a Unicode character. Paste it with Ctrl+V on a computer, or long-press and choose Paste on a phone. No app, download or special keyboard is needed.
Why did my arrow turn into an emoji?
16 of the 49 arrows on this page, including ↔, ↗, ↩, ➡, ⬅ and ▶, are listed by Unicode as text characters that also have an emoji form. Some apps draw them in the emoji style, which can look like a colored square or button. Arrows such as →, ⇒ and ➜ have no emoji form, so they stay plain text.
What is the difference between →, ⟶, ⇒ and ➜?
→ is U+2192, Rightwards Arrow, the standard short arrow. ⟶ is U+27F6, Long Rightwards Arrow, which is drawn longer. ⇒ is U+21D2, Rightwards Double Arrow, which in math often means implies. ➜ is U+279C, Heavy Round-Tipped Rightwards Arrow, a decorative dingbat arrow.
How do I type an arrow on a keyboard?
Most keyboards have no key for arrow symbols, apart from the arrow keys that move the cursor. Copying the arrow from this page and pasting it is the reliable method on any device.
Which arrows are the oldest?
By symbol count, 41 in Unicode 1.1 (1993), 5 in Unicode 3.2 (2002) and 3 in Unicode 4.0 (2003). The five from 2002 are the long arrows and the two curved arrows ⤴ and ⤵. The three from 2003 are the block arrows ⬅, ⬆ and ⬇.
Why does an arrow show as a box?
The character copied correctly, but the font on that device has no drawing for it. Every arrow on this page has been in Unicode since 2003 or earlier, so a box is a font problem and not a sign that the arrow is too new.
How do I copy and paste an up arrow or down arrow symbol?
Click ↑ (U+2191, Upwards Arrow) or ↓ (U+2193, Downwards Arrow) in the Basic arrows group. Both are plain text and keep the color of your text. For a heavier block version use ⬆ (U+2B06) or ⬇ (U+2B07), which can switch to an emoji look in some apps.
Can I use arrow symbols in a username?
It depends on the platform. Display names and bios usually accept more characters than the unique handle, which often allows only letters, numbers and a few punctuation marks. Check the rules of the platform you are using, then paste the symbol into the field and look at the preview before you save.
