Fancy Text for Your Telegram Bio and Name
Telegram gives you two places to show off styled text: your bio (70 characters standard, 140 for Premium) and your first name (up to 64 characters), both of which accept full Unicode. Bold, italic, monospace and small caps styles above are standard Unicode code points, the same system Telegram already uses for its own built-in bold and italic formatting inside messages.
Your @username is a different field, and it does not accept fancy text. Telegram restricts usernames (5 to 32 characters) to plain Latin letters, numbers, and underscores, since usernames double as a way for people to find and message you by a searchable handle. Save the styled fonts for your first name and bio, where most people actually see your profile.
Where Styled Text Displays on Telegram
Because Telegram fonts are standard Unicode characters, not custom formatting, they display correctly wherever text appears: your profile name and bio, one-on-one chats, group chats, channel posts, and message replies. Every contact sees the identical styling regardless of whether they use Telegram on iOS, Android, desktop, or web, since the styling lives in the character itself, not in a font file.
Built-in Formatting or Unicode Text: Which to Use on Telegram
Telegram has its own text formatting for messages: select some text and open the formatting menu to apply bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, monospace or spoiler. That is a formatting setting on the message, so it only works inside messages and it disappears if the text is copied into another app. It does not apply to your name or bio, which is where styled Unicode characters help.
A simple split works well. Use Telegram's own formatting for message text, because it stays readable for everyone, including screen readers. Use Unicode styles for the first name and bio, where no formatting menu exists, and keep them short. Your @username is separate again. Telegram allows 5 to 32 plain Latin letters, numbers and underscores there, so styled text will not work in it.
