Why Character Limits Differ by Platform

Every platform sets its own character limit based on how that field is used. Twitter/X allows 280 characters in a post because tweets are meant to be scannable at a glance. Instagram's 150-character bio limit forces a tight, curated profile summary. TikTok's 80-character bio is the shortest of the major platforms, reflecting its video-first design where the bio is secondary to content.
